Fiji In Talks With Vice President Of Gabon
The Vice President of Gabon, His Excellency, Didjob Divungi Di Ndinge met this evening (16/07/02), with the Assistant Minister in the Prime Ministers office, Marieta Rigamoto and the Prime Ministers Roving Ambassador, Berenado Vunibobo at Sheraton in Nadi.
This is the first informal bilateral talks that was held where diplomatic relations between the two countries were discussed.
Mr Vunibobo informed Vice President Di Ndinge that Fiji would like to explore areas of bilateral relations in terms of diplomatic missions, trade relations and technical assistance.
This Government is serious about exploring the relationship with Gabon and we know that even though Gabon is a small country it is rich in prosperity, he said.
Mr Vunibobo also informed the Gabon delegation that there were possibilities of trade in areas of timber and coconut.
In response, the Vice President Di Ndinge thanked Fiji for their hospitality and initiative at hosting the Summit.
Gabon is open to establishing bilateral relations with Fiji beginning first and foremost with diplomatic relations.
Apart from diplomatic relations it is important that these bilateral relations are bound by economic cooperation, he said.
Vice President Di Ndinge also mentioned the cultural field that Fiji and Gabon can explore as part of their individual cultural heritages.
To develop culture in our countries is an important field that we need to develop not only as Governments but something that we need to develop for our civil society, he said.
